Jardins Paula Montal-Community Kitchen

This project  was a part of my semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain where I studied Architecture in the CIEE Program. This project called for a community kitchen classroom, dining room and productive garden in the interior of an Eixample block. It is designed to address intercultural issues of collectivity at a time of economic crisis.  In this design, I drew from Spanish traditions of community food preparation and eating, as well as, exploring new initiatives that contemplate cooking classes and urban agriculture as a means of social inclusión for different groups including all ages between youth and the elderly.

Jardins Paula Montal is a  public space that  was recuperated by the Proeixample organization, a public and private initiative to recover Eixample block interiors for  public use and amenities. Although the Proeixample program has recently ended, the studio this past  term was given the opportunity to explore the possibilities of this unfinished site.
